Gymnastics president Cynthia Carrion was appointed yesterday as chief of mission to the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia this August, the Philippine Olympic Committee said.
Carrion will have Robert Bachmann of squash as her deputy for the Aug. 19-31 biennial sportsfest in Kuala Lumpur.
There was confusion earlier when Bachmann was announced as the CDM and Romasanta had to issue a correction.
Informed about the POC’a decision to name Carrion, Philippine Sports Commission chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez was a bit stunned, stressing that he thought Bachmann was the POC choice all along.
Still, Ramirez said the agency is more than willing to fund the NSAs provides that the delegation won’t bloat.
There will be 38 sports to be played and 408 events on tap in Kuala Lumpur.
“The members of the SEAG Task Force must be sensible in their choices,” said Ramirez.
“I just want the NSA heads to look after the welfare of their athletes,” added Ramirez.
