Gospel Reading: Mk 3:20-21
Jesus came with his disciples into the house. Again the crowd gathered, making it impossible for them even to eat.
When his relatives heard of this they set out to seize him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”
HE IS OUT OF HIS MIND
The crowd follows Jesus as he goes home. Who precisely these people are is not so clear. Earlier, Mark noted that “those who had diseases were pressing upon him to touch him” (Mk 3:10). Unclean spirits even fell down before Jesus and shouted, “You are the Son of God” (Mk 3:11). In the Gospel, people now claim that Jesus is out of his mind. His relatives come to his rescue. They go out to restrain him. Working for the Kingdom of God is not an easy task. We can be misunderstood and even persecuted. Family support is a great help in carrying out the mission. God has given us a bigger family, not defined by blood relationship but by our common faith. The Catholic Church is our new family by virtue of our baptism.
“The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” (1 Cor 1:18).
