Two of the five missing crew of cargo vessel Virginia 1 that sank off Corregidor Island last Tuesday have been rescued, the Philippine Coast Guard said yesterday.
They were rescued by fishermen who were fishing in the waters off Batangas, the PCG said.
Edwin Inajenes, the vessel’s quartermaster, was rescued last Wednesday by Sandy Ferrer while he was fishing off Barangay Papaya in Nasugbu.
Virgilio Macaraeg was rescued the next day by fisherman Romeo Cabading off Fortune Island in Nasugbu.
Three crew remain missing. They are Cilidinio Magbanua, who was clad in a yellow short and green T-shirt; Dennis Gadon, who was wearing light blue short pants and yellow T-shirt; and Ranilo Fetalbero, who was clad in a denim short pants and white jersey.
They were reportedly last seen wearing those clothes before they abandoned.
The MV Virgina 1 with 11 crew onboard was enroute to Roxas, Palawan from Delpan Pier, Binondo, Manila when it caught fire southwest of Caballo Island and eight nautical miles from Fortune Island. (Betheena Kae Unite)
