8 p.m. – HK vs Alab Pilipinas
The capability of Alab Pilipinas to compete for the championship will be known today as it faces the Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions for the first time in the ASEAN Basketball League at the Southorn Stadium in Hong Kong.
After winning its last three games, Alab Pilipinas faces another stern test in the Long Lions in their 8 p.m. local time contest featuring the teams currently tied for second place with identical 5-2 records.
Alab is coming off a 65-51 victory over the struggling defending champion Westports Malaysia Dragons exactly a week ago in Cyberjaya, Malaysia in a game that saw scattered production led by JR Cawaling.
Cawaling was the lone double-digit scorer for Alab Pilipinas in that win with 11 points, easing the load of top star Ray Parks Jr., who had nine points and 10 rebounds against the Dragons.
Parks, however, is looking to produce a strong outing against Hong Kong, which will be led by world import Marcus Elliott and heritage reinforcement Tyler Lamb.
Elliott has been impressive since the season began, averaging 25.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.9 steals per game for the Hong Kong squad, while Lamb, a Thai-American, has 7.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.3 steals.
Alab’s two world imports – Sampson Carter and James Hughes – will also be tasked to have their presence felt on both ends of the floor despite limited offensive production in the last two matches.
