CNN Philippines senior news anchor Pinky Webb has said that President Rodrigo Duterte and former US President Barrack Obama were some of the personalities she really wanted to do interviews with.
“Natapos na ‘yung isa (President Duterte) and I really wanted to interview him,” said Webb on the sidelines of her program “On the Record” held at the Okada Manila recently.
“I wanted to find out what was the fascination and admiration… why so many people supported him… ’yung ganun ba?
’Yun bang inspite of his being serious and kung minsan nagpapatawa, I wanna get up close and personal and feel what the President was like – is he sincere when you talk to him? Is he gonna answer my questions? So I was able to do that and I am happy about it,” Webb said.
Webb said that she also wanted to interview Mr. Obama.
“He had his farewell speech in Chicago and I only caught parts of it because I was doing other things. You know what, if you have a President who’s very sincere and who thanks his wife immensely, he calls her his best friend, parang there’s so much admiration this President has for his wife,” she added.
Despite being a beauty queen material, Webb said that nobody really encouraged her to join beauty contests.
“Wala talaga. Nobody asked me because I wasn’t really worth it,” Webb said.
Webb, daughter of former Senator Freddie Webb, said that she appeared in commercials when she was younger but never got interested in beauty contests.
“I did some shows and few commercials when I was younger nung bata-bata pa ako. But hindi naman ako beauty pageant material,” she said.
Webb said that the first time she got interested in a beauty pageant happened when Margie Moran was crowned Miss Universe in 1973.
“I’ll be honest. When Margie won, I was very young and I watched her movie ‘Oh Margie Oh’ where she played a ballerina, I guess. Doon ko naintindihan who Margie Moran was,” she added.
Webb admitted that she does not keep track of beauty pageants on television. “There are times I would watch and other times I don’t. The last time I got into pageant was Pia Wurtzbach winning the beauty contest.”
“I was at home and tweeting. Nagulat ako because I knew she had the best answer and I knew she was gonna win,” the popular news anchor said.
“So they prevailed obviously and Miss Colombia was the winner. And then nung palabas na ako ng kwarto ko, biglang may commotion. I took a picture again and I tweeted,” she said.
Webb said that she would rather watch beauty pageants on television for better angles.
