VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur – All is set for the celebration of the 2017 Longganisa Festival here today that coincides with the 16th anniversary of the cityhood of Vigan.
Vigan was declared a city by Republic Act No. 8988 enacted on January 22, 2001.
Mayor Juan Carlo Medina said festival highlights are a cookfest in the morning and a street dancing and showdown in the afternoon and in the evening.
“We are again expecting a big crowd of spectators, tourists, and visitors who often watch our grandest Longganisa Festival in the country,” Medina said.
He said that visitors will be amazed by the Longganisa Festival street dancing participants due to their attractive costumes with beautiful headdresses made of feathers and other indigenous materials. Participants will also dramatize how to make longganisa while performing.
“The Longganisa Festival is not just a showcase of our tasty longganisa delicacy but it also serves as an avenue to show our local talent. The Longganisa street dancing competition is one of the staple events for this annual event where different provinces across Ilocos region participate. Interestingly, it revolves around dramatizing how to make the Vigan longganisa,” said Medina. (Freddie G. Lazaro)
