DAVAO CITY – The Davao City Water District (DCWD) said it would need until the end of 2017, at the earliest, to provide for the water demand of the 10,900 water consumers in the Cabantian and Indangan areas of the second district of the city.
DCWD spokesperson Bernardo Delima, during a consultation with residents at the Cabantian Barangay Gym Saturday afternoon, said that the water utility is still working on tapping two additional water sources in the area, with a target date of until the first quarter of 2018.
Delima said that initial explorations in nearby water sources have failed, despite facilities already available, because the supply dwindled.
Ultimately, the DCWD is pinning its hopes on the approval of a surface water project in partnership with Aboitiz Equity Ventures’ Apo Agua, a joint venture between the water utility and a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power.
The project aims to harness surface water upstream and distribute it sans pumps and via gravity to the second district. (Yas D. Ocampo)
