Fil-American Treat Huey and Andreja Klepac of Slovenia failed to eclipse their last year’s impressive performance at the Australian Open mixed doubles after crashing out in the opening round yesterday in Melbourne.
The unseeded Huey and Klepac yielded to Netherlands’ Michaella Krajicek and South Africa’s Raveen Klaasen, 6-7 (6), 7-6 (5), 10-8 in the match that lasted one hour and 39 minutes.
Huey and Klepac fired 13 aces, but struggled with 27 unforced errors that proved crucial in their campaign.
Their performance was a far cry from their semifinal finish last year, where they paired up for the first time.
The mixed doubles defeat also came two days after Huey and Max Mirnyi of Belarus lost in the second round of the men’s doubles.
