AJ Lim’s ambitious Australian Open title bid ended shortly yesterday after losing both in his singles and doubles matches in Melbourne.
The 17-year-old Lim bowed to Maxence Broville of France, 6-4, 7-6 (3), in the second round before he and his American partner Alexandre Rotsaert yielded to fourth pick Y. Hsu Yu Hsiou of Chinese Taipei and Zhao Lingxi of China, 6-0, 2-6, 10-8, in the boys’ doubles opening round a few hours after.
It was a disappointing start for Lim, the country’s top junior netter, as he tries to make a final impact this year following a failed attempt at last year’s Grand Slams.
His best Grand Slam performance was a third-round finish at the French Open last year.
