Games Today
(Ynares Sports Arena, Pasig City)
3 p.m. – JRU vs Batangas
5 p.m. – Victoria Sports vs Wang’s
Jose Rizal University shoots for its second straight win and a share of the early lead when it battles Batangas today in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The Heavy Bombers will join the AMA Online Education Titans atop the standings if they prevail over the Batangueño cagers in the game set at 3 p.m.
JRU opened its campaign last Tuesday with a 75-64 victory over Blustar-Malaysia behind 20 points from guard Teytey Teodoro and 18 from Jhaps Bautista. This came after the Heavy Bombers pulled away in the fourth after holding a slim 53-51 lead going into the final 10 minutes of play.
Coach Vergel Meneses, whose team is using the tournament as part of its early preparation for the NCAA season, hopes to see the Heavy Bombers play better this time.
However, Batangas may pose a serious threat to JRU’s bid to score another win after a commendable showing in last week’s 101-95 loss to AMA that opened hostilities in the PBA’s developmental league.
Batangas gave AMA a fight for several stretches of the contest but had no answers for AMA’s Jeron Teng, who finished with 42 points.
Ex-pro Ogie Menor and former CafeFrance and Centro Escolar University standout Joseph Sedurifa lead Batangas of two-time D-League champion coach Eric Gonzales.
Meanwhile, Victoria Sports and Wang’s Basketball see action in the second game at 5 p.m. Victoria Sports will be led mostly by players from Manuel L. Quezon University.
