ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police arrested a sub-leader of the Abu Sayyaf Group in Barangay Cawit here Thursday.
Zamboanga Peninsula police director Chief Supt. Billy Beltran identified the ASG sub-leader as Faizal Jaafar, alias “Jaafar Mundi,” “Abu Jaafar,” “Aren,” “Ben,” and “Abu Raba.”
Beltran said Jaafar is facing 87 counts of kidnapping and serious illegal detention in connection with the Sipadan kidnapping in 2001.
Jaafar, who is also facing murder charges, is detained at Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Region 9 headquarters in this city. (Nonoy E. Lacson)
