Malacañang yesterday extended its support to Miss Philippines Maxine Medina who will compete for the Miss Universe title tomorrow against 85 other candidates at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
According to presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella, Medina deserves all the morale boost she can get for “working very hard and giving her best in a competition that promotes goodwill and friendship among nations.”
“As the country’s representative, Maxine is able to show the beauty, warm, hope, and dignity of the Filipino. We are truly proud of her,” Abella said.
Abella also conveyed the Palace’s most heartfelt felicitations for all the candidates and hopes that their stay in the country has been memorable and joyful.
“We invite them to come back and bring more of their friends to explore the various islands of the Philippines, ready to be astonished of the unexhausted beauty of each one and willing to be moved in every way by the fervent spirit of the Filipino people,” he added.
Recently, the Department of Tourism upgraded the slogan “It’s More Fun in the Philippines,” adding the phrase “When you’re with Filipinos, you’re with family,” to highlight the people’s warm hospitality.
Meanwhile, despite earlier reports, Abella said it is still unsure whether or not President Duterte will watch the coronation which will be held at 8 a.m.
“Wala po siyang confirmation. But who knows? It’s going to be a very fun experience,” Abella said over Radyo ng Bayan.
A seat has been reserved for Duterte beside Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo in case he decides to watch the final leg of the pageant. (Argyll Cyrus B. Geducos)
