President Duterte has called on Filipinos overstaying in the United States to “get out” and come home, saying he would not lift a finger if they get caught.
The President reminded Filipinos to follow the new US immigration rules which he claimed he understands and respects.
“Yung mga Pilipinong nandoon, you better be on the right track,” the President said in a press conference early yesterday morning in Malacañang.
“If you are not allowed to stay there, you’re overstaying, get out. Because if you are caught and deported, I will not lift a finger. You know it is a violation of the law,” he added.
The President said he would not meddle with US President Donald Trump’s decision to curb the entry of immigrants and refugees into the US “out of respect.”
“Trump said, “I will not interfere in the affairs of other countries.” Now, kung may mga policies siya to protect his country, I will understand,” the President said.
He recalled that in his recent conversation with Trump, the US leader pledged he would not interfere with the government’s war on illegal drugs and even commended for “doing it right.”
“So out of respect for the statement, I can only answer him in the manner he has told me. Hindi ako makialam,” Duterte said.
Trump recently signed a controversial order placing a 90-day ban on the entry of travelers from seven mainly Muslim countries supposedly to protect Americans from terror threats.
The order also temporarily halted all refugee arrivals into the United States. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
