The camp of Australian Jeff Horn can’t wait to lay their hands on Filipino southpaw Manny Pacquiao and inflict him a bad beating.
As stakeholders from Australia, New Zealand and the US attempt to get a deal in place for the April 23 world welterweight title fight in Brisbane, Horn is all pumped up to get it on and show what he can do.
Glenn Rushton, who trains the unbeaten Horn (16-0-1 win-loss -draw with 11 KOs), told Fairfax Media that his fighter is poised to prove their detractors wrong.
“His doubters will have egg on their face,” said Rushton.
Horn’s promotional team has already forged a deal with the state government of Queensland so Pacquiao’s first defense of the World Boxing Organization 147-lb crown can be staged at the 52,500-capacity Suncorp Stadium.
Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum is also looking at bringing the fight to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, which is said to be dangling a mouth-watering offer.
But while Arum and his Australian and New Zealand counterparts scamble to get everything under wraps, Horn and his handlers are getting ready and beginning to visualize what’s going to happen regardless of the locale.
Rushton is even more vivid.
“He (Horn) eats southpaws for breakfast,” said Rushton, who feels that his fighter will make a rousing introduction to the world.
“After, they’ll know all about Jeff Horn,” he added.
