Department of Justice (DoJ) Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II wants to know all the confidential informants and even “strikers” being utilized by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Aguirre made the move following the surrender of Jerry Omlang, one of the suspects in the kidnap-slay of Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo.
Omlang was earlier identified as an agent of the NBI but was later found that he was merely a “striker” or errand boy.
“I already directed my Usecs at the Department of Justice to ask in a department order, memorandum order, asking the National Bureau of Investigation for an inventory of all these confidential agents, civilian informants, kung anuman ang tawag nila sa mga strikers na ito para malaman natin kung gaano ito karami so that we can review kung ano ang dapat natin gawin,” he said.
The secretary noted that there have been instances in the past that such persons have been abusing their connections with the NBI.
“Inaabuso po ng mga na-appoint na mga hindi naman NBI agents talaga,” he added.
So far, NBI Director Dante Gierran assured that no other NBI agent is involved in the kidnap-slay of Jee.
Otherwise, Gierran vowed to kill any NBI agent involved in the crime.
“Talagang papatayin ko sila kung merong NBI agents, talagang papatayin ko sila,” he stressed.
Gierran later explained “kill” means legal actions he intends to do against those involved.
“Alam mo kapag kinasuhan mo ang isang tao namamatay na ang kanyang career, namamatay na ang kanyang source of supply ng pera at eventually mamatay rin ang kanyang pamilya kasi wala na siyang isusuporta,” he said. (Jeffrey Damicog)
