The Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. (LVPI) is using the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia as a gauge for the country’s readiness to field teams in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
LVPI Vice President Peter Cayco yesterday said they are looking at their current recruitment and training program for SEAG-bound athletes as a stepping stone on their long-term plans for the Asiad.
“We are taking our SEA Games campaign very seriously,” said Cayco during the weekly PSA Forum at the Golden Phoenix Hotel in Pasay City.
“We need to stick up with the talents that we have right now and then continue to expand our selection efforts if we wanted to make it to the Asian Games,” he added.
The association is busy preparing for the SEAG slated Aug. 16 to 31 by holding tryouts for the men’s and women’s squads around the country.
Manila tryouts had started over the weekend until yesterday, while Visayas and Mindanao tryouts will be in Cebu and Davao on Feb. 18 to 19 and Feb. 23 and 24, respectively.
