Grand Slam doubles player Treat Huey has confirmed his commitment to play for the national team in the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia this August despite his tight schedule in the pro circuit.
The 31-year-old Fil-American netter said he’ll do what it takes to make his schedule work as the biennial meet, scheduled Aug. 19 to 31, would ran smack to the US Open slated Aug. 28 to Sept. 10.
“My plan, for sure, is to be there for the SEAG,” said Huey. “The SEAG is just a week before the US Open so it’s gonna be tough for me, but I’m looking forward to trying to make it work.”
Huey added he has no plans of dropping one tournament over another, particularly the SEAG, where the PH team won one gold, three silver and four bronze medals.
He was actually excited to defend his mixed doubles gold medal with partner Denise Dy.
“Representing the country in the SEAG, the Asian Games, and the Davis Cup has always been special for me. It’s an honor, and I always look forward to making Philippine tennis getting better and better,” Huey said.
Apart from the Davis Cup and the SEAG, Huey also carries the country’s colors in the ATP Tour. He has been campaigning with Belarusian Max Mirnyi in the doubles and the pair are currently ranked as the eighth best doubles player in the world.
