Senators are not amused by the mere verbal lashing and pushups demanded by Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald M. dela Rosa on seven Angeles city policemen linked to the alleged kidnapping and extortion of South Korean tourists last December.
The escutcheon of the 150,000-member PNP had been besmirched by the activities of rogue policemen, highlighted by the kidnapping for ransom and killing of South Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo, 53.
The Amnesty International also accused some PNP members of allowing themselves to kill suspected drug pushers for a fee while implementing President Duterte’s bloody anti-illegal drug campaign.
Sen. Francis Pangilinan, president of the Liberal Party, said, Dela Rosa should have publicly disarmed and handcuffed the abusive policemen.
Pangilinan also said that Dela Rosa should not have allowed the policemen to wear their uniforms.
