The gargantuan task of running after bad eggs in the Philippine National Police starts with the launching of its anti-scalawag unit tomorrow.
Director General Ronald M. dela Rosa, PNP chief, said he has signed the memorandum creating the Counter-Intelligence Task Force of PNP headed by Senior Supt. Chiquito Malayo.
“Probably, it would be launched by Monday and they will be ready to receive complaints and information about rogue cops,” said Dela Rosa.
A company composed of more or less 50 PNP Special Action Force commandos that will serve as initial personnel of the CITF has arrived in Camp Crame in Quezon City.
Dela Rosa said they expect more policemen to join the CITF in the coming days, prompting him to look for a space where they would be housed.
The PNP chief inspected a large carpark inside the compound of the Ant-Illegal Drugs Group as possible barracks of CITF personnel.
The carpark is filled with seized vehicles from various anti-drugs operations in Metro Manila and parts of Luzon. Dela Rosa said they will dispose of the cars as soon as possible.
The AIDG was disbanded after the alleged involvement of four personnel in the kidnap-slay of South Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo who was strangled to death near the main entrance of the AIDG.
The disbandment of the AIDG led to the creation of the CITF in compliance with the order of President Duterte to purge the PNP with scalawags. (Aaron B. Recuenco)
