The head of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) in Muntinlupa has condemned the killing of a prison guard assigned at the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (Dapecol) who was gunned down by an unidentified man in Davao del Norte on February 4.
BuCor Director Benjamin Delos Santos said the bureau will investigate the killing of Prison Guard 3 Kabungsuan Makilala, 59, the third prison guard at Dapecol who was murdered since November.
“We will let no stones unturned in this senseless killing. I have directed (the) OIC, DAPECOL to create a special investigation team to conduct thorough investigation & closely coordinate w/ NBI & PNP,” Delos Santos said. “We condole with the bereaved family of PG3 Bong Makilala & provided assistance in their hour of grief.”
A report by the Carmen Municipal Police Station showed that Makilala was shot and killed Saturday morning while inside the Bachelor bus that was headed to Davao City.
As soon as the bus reached Purok 8 in Barangay Alejal, the suspect requested the bus driver to stop, shot Makilala in the head before leaving the bus.
PO3 Pablo Paulo, whose house was just 15 meters away from the crime scene, responded but was shot at by another male riding a motorcycle with plate number LL 3277.
The two suspects then forcibly took another motorcycle owned by Ryan Roga Doleres and used it to flee the scene towards Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte, according to the police report.
Makilala was brought by the bus driver to the Carmen District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Paulo, Marilyn Bediones, Elena Balase and Elvera Paulo suffered gunshot wounds and were treated at separate hospitals. (Jonathan Hicap)
