The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will go after jeepney operators who joined the transport strike that left commuters stranded yesterday.
LTFRB board member Aileen Lizada said they are now in the process of collating documentary evidence to cancel or suspend franchises of jeepney operators protesting the planned phaseout of dilapidated jeepneys.
“We got the plate numbers of the some jeepneys that participated. Pictures keep coming in and we will go after them,” said Lizada, who monitored the traffic situation at the Metrobase Command Center of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority yesterday.
Based on their monitoring, the transport strike turned ugly in some parts of Metro Manila when drivers blocked the paths of fellow drivers who refused to take part in the protest.
“We have received reports of harassment, protesters blocking the path of drivers, throwing stones at them who continued their trip; they did not even spare tricycle drivers,” said Lizada. (Anna Liza Villas-Alavaren)
