A nephew of Presidential Peace Adviser Jesus Dureza was nabbed during a buy bust operation Thursday night in Cataluna Pequeño, Davao City.
According to Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 11 director Adzhar Albani, John Paul Dureza was arrested during an operation inside his house after operatives found 15 grams of suspected shabu estimated to be worth P200,000; one .22 rifle and 117 pieces ammunition; four pieces calibre .40 ammunition; one calibre 9mm ammunition; and assorted drug paraphernalia.
Also arrested was Dureza’s companion Jose Anthony Celso Huilar. They are currently detained at the PDEA regional office in Davao City.
The young Dureza is the only son of Jerry Dureza, younger brother of the government’s longtime peace negotiator.
“I am of course embarrassed as he is a close relative. That’s the way this no-nonsense drive of President Duterte should proceed,” stated Duterte’s peace adviser.
The young Dureza is also said to be included in PDEA’s drug watch list.
Cases for violation of Section 26 in relation to Section 5, Section 11 and Section 12, Article II of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as “The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002” and Republic Act 10591 are being prepared against Dureza and Huillar.
