Malacañang said yesterday that President Duterte simply has a different working style after he was called insecure by former President Fidel V. Ramos.
Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said Duterte and Ramos have different leadership approaches but it doesn’t mean that the President is insecure and makes one-way decisions.
“Iba lang po siguro talaga ang working style ni PRRD tsaka ni FVR. Si FVR kasi na medyo ang approach niya is more managerial and more corporate,” Abella said in an interview over Radyo ng Bayan.
“While PRRD is more visionary. Hindi po ibig sabihin na insecure ‘yung kanya. He is what you would call a transformational leader, ‘yun bang out of nothing may nagagawa siya,” he added.
“Magkaibang-magkaiba po talaga ang style nila but we appreciate both.”
Despite Duterte acting on things by himself, Abella said that the President is listening before coming up with decisions.
Ramos has accused Duterte of not consulting with the Cabinet every time he creates a policy or comes up with a decision which Abella denied.
“Nakikinig po siya. Kaya lang po ang proseso niya is slightly different but that doesn’t mean to say hindi siya kumokonsulta,” Abella said.
Ramos, in an online interview Thursday, described Duterte as insecure, adding that the Chief Executive needs to consult with the public when it comes to policy decisions to get their support.
“A lot of these fears being generated by him is because he is afraid of fear or he is not secured. He is insecure,” Ramos said.
Ramos, who was the former special envoy to China, added that Duterte must be at peace with himself, saying that the Chief Executive should stop talking about dying soon or getting killed or not caring about his life as he should fulfill his duties as President. (Argyll Cyrus B. Geducos)
