The Cleveland Cavaliers unsurprisingly traded NBA veteran Chris Andersen plus cash to the Charlotte Hornets, a move seen to free up a roster spot. The 38-year-old center suffered a season-ending ACL injury back in December.
In exchange, the Cavs got a 2017 second-round pick that is top-55 protected according to ESPN.
The Cavs continue to fill up their roster spots with key players. Derrick Williams was recently signed to a 10-day contract but is expected to get a longer deal soon. As mentioned in a previous report, LeBron James was pretty vocal about wanting the former no. 2 pick long term, believing that Cleveland was lucky to get him from the free agent market.
With Kevin Love playing hurt, the Cavs could be looking to add another big man to the mix. Only Williams, Tristan Thompson and Channing Frye are the healthy frontline players for the Cavs as of this writing.
Also, the Cavs have yet to announce who they will get to back up starting guard Kyrie Irving. After holding midseason tryouts, Jordan Farmar’s name was mentioned as the top contender to be signed. The Cavs are also reportedly weighing in on Jose Calderon of the Los Angeles Lakers as an option.
