Saint Francis of Assisi College, showing its might once again, held Philippine Merchant Marine School to just 18 points in the first two quarters on the way to a 78-58 drubbing in the National Capital Region Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (NCR-UCLAA) basketball tournament at the University of Makati gym.
Ryan Chu, ironically a transferee from PMMS, starred for Saint Francis’ onslaught with 20 points aside from posting 13 rebounds and six blocks.
After holding PMMS to just 9 points in the first quarter, the Doves continued their defensive pressure in the second, keeping them without a field goal until Robin Villamayor beat the halftime buzzer.
It was Saint Francis’ second straight lopsided win to improve to 3-1 in Group B elims.
“It was our defense once again that gave us our third win, but I’m hoping to have a better finish next time,” said coach Gabby Velasco. “I got big game from Ryan.”
Velasco also got significant numbers from Jeremy Derama, Paulo Castro and JM Cruz who combined for 33 points.
Derama highlighted his game with a booming triple at third quarter buzzer.
