The driver of the luxury car that killed two motorcycle-riding men in a hit-and-run incident Sunday surrendered to police yesterday.
Two days after the incident, Alvin San Pablo, 32, appeared at the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) apologizing before the relatives of Lowell Gonzalgo, 26, and Felix Marvin Bose for leaving them dead after his vehicle crashed into the their motorcycle along V. Luna Road in Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City, early Sunday morning.
“Humihingi po ako ng tawad sa inyo, at the same time po, lahat naman po ng dapat gastusin is haharapin ko naman po.
Pinapaasikaso ko na po sa attorney ko. Sana po mapatawad niyo po ako. Hindi ko naman po sinasadya, aksidente lang po talaga,” he told the grieving relatives of Gonzalgo and Bose.
San Pablo’s black Hummer (BEU-200) hit the motorcycle of the two victims while attempting to counterflow along an empty road around 5:30 a.m. A close-circuit television camera recorded the incident.
QCPD director Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said San Pablo contacted him after the luxury car’s owner, Eric Santos, appeared at the police station the other day to clear his name.
Santos denied driving the car at the time of the incident, saying he lent the Hummer to a business partner who later loaned the car to San Pablo. Eleazar said this is the nature of their networking business which helps them hit their sales.
In his defense, San Pablo said he was tired when he drove his car on his way to his house in Calamba, Laguna, from a business meeting in Quezon City. Laguna. “Puyat po ako,” he claimed.
“Pauwi na rin po ako…Pagdating ko po ng V. Luna, may part po akong iniwasan, napakabila po ako. Napapikit po ako ang pagdilat ko may paparating na pong motor. Di na po ako nakaiwas,” narrrated San Pablo.
“Sa sobrang taranta ko po, natakot na din po ako, talagang umalis po ako. Pero agad po namang akong kumontak ng pwedeng tumulong sa akin at makahanap ng pagkakataon,” he added.
The suspect said he will shoulder the relatives’ expenses for the funeral of the victims. “Lahat po ng dapat bayaran sasagutin ko po,” he promised.
SUSPECT FACES RAPS
Melinda Gonzalgo, Lowell’s mother, became emotional when he saw San Pablo during the press conference. She flew with his son Cassidy, Lowell’s elder brother, from Sorsogon, Bicol, to Quezon City when she found out that her son did not survive the accident.
Lowell was thrown off the motorcycle and landed headfirst when the car hit them.
“Uuwi po sana siya ngayong linggo para asikasuhin po yung transcript of records at diploma, kasi gusto niyang mag-exam sa Napolcom (National Police Commission),” she said.
His friend, Bose, meanwhile, suffered worse when he was dragged by the vehicle before speeding off to escape. His body was disfigured by the incident.
Bose was survived by his two-month-old child, his father Mamerto told the press.
The relatives said they will accept San Pablo’s assistance but will still push through with the filing of charges against him for the duo’s deaths.
Eleazar said they will file a case of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide against San Pablo.
