BAGUIO CITY – The province of Benguet recorded one of its coldest days when temperature hit 6°C on Valentine’s Day.
According to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the drop in temperature was caused by the northeast monsoon affecting the country.
At Mount Pulag, temperature as low as 2ºC have been experienced in January 2017.
Low temperatures may still be experienced until the end of February and is attributed to the northeast monsoon from China and Mongolia, Dispo said.
Dispo added that Baguio City and the Province of Benguet will experience isolated light rains but will generally have a good weather condition throughout the week.
PAGASA-Baguio is anticipating a low temperature of about 7.5ºC until end of February.
Based on PAGASA data, the lowest temperature ever recorded in Baguio City was 6.3 degrees Celsius on January 18, 1961.
The coldest temperature recorded in 2016 was at 5 a.m. on Jan. 26 with a low of 10.8ºC at the Central Business District.
The coldest day in history in Metro Manila was registered twice on February 4, 1987 and December 30, 1988 at 15.1 degrees Celsius.
Last weekend Metro Manila recorded 21.6 degrees Saturday morning. Metro Manila’s coldest day so far this season was recorded last January 8 with 19.0 degrees Celsius.
