Manny Pacquiao is flying to the United Arab Emirates today to formally finalize the details of his April 23 fight either in Dubai or Abu Dhabi against a still-to-be-named opponent.
A few days ago, Pacquiao’s Canadian adviser Mike Koncz staged a press conference in Abu Dhabi where he announced that instead of Brisbane, Australia, the UAE will be the venue for the fighting senator’s next fight.
Australia is bidding to hold the world welterweight title fight starring Pacquiao against its very own Jeff Horn at the 52,500-seat Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
Somebody from Pacquiao’s camp revealed that the choice of opponent and the exact date would have to be determined, fueling speculations that the little-known Horn might end up being dumped in favor of a more recognizable name.
In fact, Pacquiao even came out on social media asking his fans and followers who they would like him to see fight next.
As expected, Horn’s name was on the bottom of the list with Amir Khan of England garnering the most number of votes.
Meanwhile, Horn feels that he has a deal in place to fight Pacquiao and the Filipino star’s recent strong statements about fighting in the UAE instead of Australia is meant to show that he calls the shots.
“I think Paquiao is just trying to show everyone that he’s the boss and that no one can tell him what to do,” Horn told the Courier Mail, his hometown paper in Brisbane.
