President Duterte has not made any death threats against his bitter rival Sen. Antonio F. Trillanes IV despite the baseless allegations of unexplained wealth hurled against him, according to a Palace official.
Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella observed that Trillanes was being “overly imaginative” and “very dramatic” when he claimed the President supposedly wanted him dead.
“Ano naman ang silbi, ano naman ang saysay na gagawin ng Presidente iyon? Wala iyan. I think he is just being overly imaginative and very dramatic,” Abella said in a radio interview. “Huwag na natin bigyang pansin ‘yan,” he added.
Abella said Trillanes was just looking for attention by resuscitating the President’s alleged secret bank accounts.
He said this was a “rehash of old items” that Duterte already addressed during the presidential campaign.
“We don’t know why – hindi natin alam kung bakit Trillanes is trying to attract attention to himself, you know. Pero ito po ay napag-usapan na at nasagot na ng Presidente nung ano – in fact, before the elections and that it’s exactly why he was voted by people,” he said in another interview.
Trillanes called on the President to make public his bank records to disprove allegations he has unexplained wealth.
The senator said he would resign if his allegation that Duterte and his family have more than P2 billion in bank deposits is proven wrong. He also claimed about getting information that Duterte wants him killed over his latest expose against him.
Reacting to the senator’s charges, the President said he would resign immediately if Trillanes could prove he has illegally amassed wealth. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
