San Sebastian’s Grethcel Soltones and Alyssa Eroa try to accomplish what their team failed to do in indoor volleyball as the two shoot for a four-peat feat in the 92nd NCAA beach volleyball competitions set Feb. 22-26 at the Lighthouse Marina in Subic Bay.
Soltones, the MVP in indoor volleyball, and Eroa, one of the best liberos in the country today, will backstop the same squad that beat San Beda’s Viray twins Maria Jeziela and Maria Nieza, 14-21, 21-9, 15-6, in last year’s finals.
It was the Lady Stags third straight championship and a league-best six overall.
And now they’re going for more.
“Grethcel (Soltones) and Alyssa (Eroa) will play,” said San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb, a multi-titled coach in both indoor and beach.
The duo wll have Daureen Santos as a reserve.
San Sebastian hopes to win in beach volley to soothe the pain of blowing a thrice-to-beat finals advantage to eventual indoor winner Arellano U.
And Soltones is expected to give everything she got to make up for it.
“We’ll go for it,” said Soltones in Filipino.
San Sebastian, however, is expected to face tough opposition again as it battles a vastly improved field headed by the talented Viray twins, who swept their way to finals and came a set away from winning it all.
Until Solltones and Eroa decided to spoil the Viray’s title bid and won it with a thrilling come-from-behind three-set win.
