President Duterte and House Speaker Pantaleon D. Alvarez held a friendly meeting in Baguio City last Friday night.
A well-placed source said they recalled all the good times they had and renewed their ties as brothers.
They did not discuss politics, the death penalty bill, and the filing of three drug-related charges by the Department of Justice before the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court against Sen. Leila M. de Lima, the source said.
The source said Duterte and Alvarez met for three hours from 9 p.m. Friday to 12 midnight Saturday over a cup of coffee and “papaitan” or beef innards stew at the House Speaker’s official residence.
“The atmosphere at the meeting was very warm and friendly, they are not just friends, they are also brothers,” the source, describing the meeting, said.
Several hours later, Duterte attended the 2017 alumni homecoming of the Philippine Military Academy.
The source said the “friendly meeting” zeroed in on the aspiration of Duterte and Alvarez to serve the people.
“It was purely a friendly meeting. There was no discussion of politics, not even the death penalty,” the source said.
“Pinag-usapan nila ang nakalipas na kampanya at binalikan ang kanilang pagsusumikap na mapanalunan ang Malacañang at makapaglingkod sa bayan,” the source said. (Charissa M. Luci)
