Four passengers were seriously injured after a fast craft accidentally collided to a barge in Mactan Channel, Cebu Saturday night.
Forty-five more passengers also sustained minor injuries due to the collision, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported.
According to the PCG, at 10:21 p.m. Saturday, a fast craft of Supercat 2Go “MV Braquel” accidentally collided with a San Miguel barge in the vicinity of Mactan Channel.
It was disclosed that at 11:45 p.m., 90 passengers and eleven crew members onboard the fast craft were safely transferred to its sister ship “MV Saint Jhudiel.”
It was learned that the fast craft with 292.95 gross tonnage departed Ormoc City at 7:55 p.m. of Satyrday. It was bound for Cebu City.
The incident was reported to Coast Guard Station (CGS) Cebu after the collision took place. Men from CGS Cebu immediately dispatched DF-318 and aluminium boat to render assistance and medical support.
As of press time, PCG Cebu is still conducting an investigation on the collision.
PCG further advised the master of MV Braquel to file a marine protest relative to the incident. (Betheena Kae Unite)
