The police task force created to run after scalawags has so far received more than 2,000 complaints alleging the involvement of some lawmen in various illegal activities.
Senior Supt. Chiquito Malayo, commander of the Counter-Intelligence Task Force, said the complaints include that of a general who is being accused of involvement in illegal gambling and illegal drugs.
“There is complaint we received against a star-rank (general) officer who is said to be involved in illegal gambling and illegal drugs. But I hope you understand that we cannot reveal it because it is still subject for validation,” said Malayo.
Malayo said the complaints from civilians include text messages and calls to the hotline number of the CITF which was created a few weeks ago after the controversy regarding the kidnap-slay of South Korean executive Jee Ick Joo.
Malayo said they are now conducting background check against the policemen who are subjects of the complaints.
He added that they are careful in dealing with information that they would receive since some of them could be a form of harassment or just pranks against policemen.
Since its creation, the CITF has already arrested three policemen – two from Manila extorting money from taxi drivers and another who was caught extorting P1,000 from a couple applying for a risk assessment report which is one of the requirements to own a gun and avail of permit to carry guns outside residence.
