President Duterte will hold another meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping to enhance the bilateral relations and explore new areas of cooperation during his upcoming visit to Beijing.
The President is scheduled to attend the “One Belt, One Road” summit this May upon the invitation of the Chinese counterpart, according to China Ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua.
This would be the second visit of Duterte to China since he assumed office last June as part of fostering friendly ties with the Asian neighbor. The newly elected Philippine leader made a state visit to Beijing last October.
“In mid-May, there will be a high-level ‘One Belt, One Road Summit’ to be held in Beijing. We are very glad that President Duterte, His Excellency, has accepted the invitation issued by his counterpart President Xi Jinping,” the ambassador said in a Palace press conference.
“When President Duterte goes to China to attend the summit, there will also be a chance for these two heads of state, two Presidents, to have a very substantial bilateral meeting. That will going to be again a great host to the further advancement of our bilateral cooperation and friendship,” he added.
Zhao said they also invited a team from Presidential Communications Office to make a documentary about the international summit. The “One Belt, One Road” initiative is part of China’s efforts to revitalize the old Silk Road that once connected China with Asia, Europe, and other countries. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
