Brandon Jennings has verbally agreed to join the Washington Wizards, negating the previous talk that he was bound for the Charlotte Hornets. With the looming deal, Jennings satisfies his aim to join a contender.
The Knicks waived Jennings Monday with head coach Jeff Hornacek claiming that the 27-year-old guard was looking for more playing time in an interview with the NY Post. After being cut, Detroit Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy revealed that Jennings was headed to the Charlotte Hornets after a talk with the player’s agent, ESPN reported.
With his destination partially known, Jennings will join a team that currently occupies the third spot in the NBA Eastern Conference. Washington totes a 35-23 win-loss card, behind the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics.
Jennings should fit in perfectly with the Wizards having only Trey Burke coming off the bench in another report from ESPN. The fourth-year guard may eventually be demoted as the third string guard. Once Jennings comes on board, Washington needs to waive a player to make room.
As far as his numbers, Jennings averaged 8.6 points and 4.9 assists for the Knicks this season. The Wizards will be his fifth NBA team since joining the league in 2009. He was the 10th overall pick by the Milwaukee Bucks that year.
