SMALL-SCREEN WISHES – Perhaps, one is wishing for the improbable…if not impossible. Just the same, this avid televiewer wishes to see the following programs on the small screen.
Let’s start with horror anthology, one which is really scary or quaint. Two old American programs come to mind “Twilight Zone” and “One Step Beyond.”
Read that a modern version of classic of the ‘70s, “The Exorcist” is airing on a local cable channel. That one is really frightening, with Max Von Sydow as the priest exorcising the devil-possessed teener played by Linda Blair. It was set in the US, said to be inspired by a real exorcism.
Will the TV series equal if not surpass the original? Maybe not.
Another movie which can be adapted for television is “The Innocents” circa 1961, topbilled by Deborrah Kerr as the governess of siblings – a boy and a girl – possessed by the souls of departed lovers. Set in Victorian England, “The Innocents” is based on the Henry James novel “The Turn of the Screw.”
Perhaps, paranormal authority Jaime Licauco could serve as consultant to such horror stories.

CLASSICS – Another “suntok sa buwan” (hoping against hope) is a drama anthology based on or inspired by classics. Either literature or music.
How about Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” or “Taming of the Shrew” or “Merchant of Venice?” Or George Bernand Shaw’s “Pygmalion and Galatea?” Or Dante’s “Inferno?”
How about from opera? “Madame Butterfly,” “La Boheme,” “Carmen,” “La Traviata,” “Lucia di Lammermoor,” “Samson and Delilah.”
In case you’ve forgotten, “Miss Saigon” and “Rent” are modern takes on “Madame Butterfly” and “La Boheme,” respectively.

AN EVENING WITH – Missed are musical shows like “An Evening with Pilita” in the ‘60s and ‘70s.
After Miss Corrales, the likes of Celeste Legaspi, Zsa Zsa Padilla, and Ryan Caybyab hosted similar musicals.
Why not another one hosted by younger singers? Say “An Evening with Sarah” (Geronimo, of course). Or even “Lani & Martin on Camera” (Misalucha and Nievera).
