Defending champion University of the Philippines and Far Eastern University battle for solo second today in the UAAP Season 79 men’s football tournament at the Moro Lorenzo Field.
The Fighting Maroons hope to get back on the winning track in the 4 p.m. clash with the Tamaraws.
In other matches, De La Salle and National University try to keep within range of the top 4 at 2 p.m., while bottom squads Adamson University and University of the East collide at 9 a.m.
UP suffered its first loss as it bowed to league-leading Ateneo, 0-1, in last Sunday’s Katipunan derby to stay at 10 points.
FEU, meanwhile, is doing well under coach Vince Santos as the one of only two unbeaten sides in the tournament.
The Tamaraws have 12 points, six off the Blue Eagles, aside from maintaining a clean sheet. Rico Andes and Val Jurao have combined five of the team’s eight goals in the tournament.
King Miyagi, who scored two goals this season, will banner the Maroons.
The Green Archers hope to put an end to all the struggles against the Bulldogs, who are coming off a 2-1 win over the Falcons Sunday.
De La Salle tried to rebound from two-match losing streak last Sunday, but could only settle to a 2-2 draw with University of Santo Tomas to stay in fifth place in the table with five points.
NU is holding sixth spot with four points.
