Defending champion La Salle aims to reaffirm its mastery over bitter rival Ateneo in their anticipated nail-biting duel in today’s UAAP women’s volleyball playdate at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The winner of this 4 p.m. battle will get to hold the top spot of the team standings as both La Salle and Ateneo carry identical 5-1 records.
The winning team to emerge in this exciting 4 p.m. battle would not only tighten its grip of the top spot, but would also gain the solo lead with their identical 5-1 win-loss records.
Both squads have already been displaying maturity and their experience in their last few matches, with La Salle riding on a three-game winning streak at the expense of University of the East, Adamson, and National University.
Ateneo meanwhile boasts of a four-game winning run against Far Eastern University, Adamson, University of the East, and University of the Philippines.
In their fame against UP, the Lady Eagles showed their might by ending the Lady Maroons’ four-game winning streak via a 25-14, 25-19, 25-21 straight sets win.
Skipper Jia Morado, who currently leads the Best Setter race, is expected to be the heart and soul of Ateneo in providing variety of plays that could shatter La Salle’s defense.
Supporting her are Bea De Leon, Kat Tolentino, Maddie Madayag, and Jho Maraguinot.
But La Salle is expected to be a tough nut to crack, boasting with an equally deep lineup bannered by its own veteran setter in Kim Fajardo, as well as powerful spikers Kim Dy and Joy Baron.
“Ipapakita namin na we have a heart of the champion and show our A-game and our consistency,” said Dy, who is also the Finals MVP last year.
