A tired but happy President Duterte met his newest grandson Marko Digong Carpio or Stonefish a few hours after he was born through Cesarean section at the Davao Doctors’ Hospital in Davao City Thursday.
Duterte was in Cebu City earlier in the day to deliver two speeches and attend the groundbreaking of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway.
He was accompanied by Special Assistant to the President Secretary Christopher “Bong” Go during the visit.
The Chief Executive could not contain his excitement and was all smiles when asked about Stonefish.
“I’m exceedingly excited. I want to go home now. Galing dito, uwi na ‘ko,” Duterte said. “Diretso na ako sa hospital,” he added.
Duterte is delighted that Sarah gave birth to a son and talked in jest about his grandson’s nickname. “Ewan ko ba riyan kay Inday. Kawawa naman ang bata,” he said.
According to Davao City Information Officer Jef Tupas, the presidential daughter’s love for the sea is the reason behind the name of Stonefish and his siblings seven-year-old sister Sharky and older brother Stingray.
Stonefish, whose father is lawyer Manases Carpio, weighed 2.42 kilograms or 5.33 pounds when he was born before 1 p.m. Thursday. (Argyll Cyrus B. Geducos)
