One hundred three persons, 46 of them minors, were arrested by the police during the conduct of the One Time, Big Time “Oplan Rody” or Rid the Streets of Drinkers and Youth campaign in Paranaque City Friday night.
Senior Supt. Jemar Modequillo, newly installed Paranaque police chief, said the operation was conducted at around 10 p.m. in Barangays San Dionisio and San Isidro.
One hundred three persons, including 46 minors, were arrested during the operation.
Thirty one persons were arrested for drinking liquor in public places, 15 for loitering the streets half-naked, and 11 had standing warrants of arrests for drug and murder cases, among others.
Modequillo said the minors were arrested for violating the city ordinance on curfew hours. Minors are barred from roaming the streets in Paranaque from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
All of the minors were released after their parents and guardians appeared before the Parañaque police headquarters and showed a copy of their birth certificates.
As punishment, those arrested for drinking liquor and being half-naked in public places were ordered to do pushups.
“Hangga’t maaari ay gagawin natin itong araw-araw para malinis ang siyudad natin sa mga iligal na gawain, madisiplina ang mga kabataan, at mapababa ang krimen na nangyayari tuwing gabi,” Modequillo said.
Police confiscated 24 motorcycles that do not have registration papers from their drivers during the operation.
Police are verifying if the confiscated motorcycles were stolen or not. They will remain at the impounding area of the Paranaque police until the owners present original registration papers.
Modequillo said the implementation of city ordinances had been intensified due to Oplan Rody, a campaign spurred by the anticrime pronouncements of President Duterte after he assumed the presidency last year.
