Tropical cyclone activity will be at its minimum, as forecasters are expecting up to only one tropical cyclone that may enter the country’s area of responsibility or form over Philippine waters this month.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) noted that the gradual weakening of the cold weather-associated system northeast monsoon or amihan will continue during the early part of March.
The weather bureau declares the termination of northeast monsoon season following the prevalence of weather systems associated with the warm weather, particularly the ridge of high pressure area and easterly winds.
“Slightly warmer than average surface temperature is expected over the coming months as the northeast monsoon season will terminate soon,” said Ana Liza Solis, OIC of the PAGASA’s Climate Monitoring and Prediction Section.
This March and April, PAGASA sees generally near normal rainfall in most parts of the country. (Ellalyn de Vera)
