CAMP GENERAL SIMEON OLA, Legazpi City – A 10-wheeler trailer truck loaded with sheet piles slammed into a motorcycle and two houses Sunday afternoon, leaving six persons dead and three injured.
The incident took place at 2:45 p.m. at the boundary of Estancia, Malinao and Quinastillojan in Tabaco City, Albay.
Chief Inspector Arthur Gomez, spokesperson of the Albay Police Office (PPO), said among the dead was the truck driver Orlando Banadera, 49, married of P-1, Del Rosario, Naga City. Also killed were two crew members – Rommel Mendenilla Nantes, 27, of Barangay Laglag, Camalig, Albay and James Lopez Romero of Palanog, Camalig, Albay.
The motorcycle driver and two back riders perished in the accident. They were Albert Begino Baroma, Jasmine Hanolan Boringot, and Mark Camero, 6. All were residents of P-7 Soa, Malinao, Albay.
Injured in the accident were bystanders Daniel Serrano Bonganay and sons Jason Almonte Bonganay, 28; and Jefrey Almonte Bonganay, 32; all residents of P-6 Estancia, Malinao, Albay.
All the fatalities were declared dead on arrival at Ziga Memorial Hospital while the injured were transferred to Bicol Regional Teaching and Training Hospital.
Initial investigation showed that the truck lost its brakes while negotiating a sharp curve. (NIÑO N. LUCES)
