A Canadian businessman was shot dead in the presence of his pregnant wife as their car got stuck in traffic in Pasay City Monday night.
Chief Inspector Rolando Baula, head of Pasay police’s investigation unit, identified the victim as Nanthakumaran Kumarasamy, 55, of No. 212 Purple Road, Gatchalian Subdivision, Parañaque City. He owned stalls offering beauty products and gadgets in a mall in Pasay.
Kumarasamy suffered a lone gunshot wound in the left side of neck and was declared dead on arrival at San Juan De Dios Hospital.
Around 6:30 p.m., the Kumarasamy couple was onboard their gold Suzuki APV with plate number PHO-894 and about to go home from their stalls when the gunman attacked them, Baula said.
While stuck in traffic along EDSA Extension near Metro Park going to Macapagal Avenue intersection, the gunman casually walked towards the victim, who was driving the car, and shot him at close range.
Baula said the murder seemed to have been planned as the suspect apparently waited for the usual routes of the couple when going home.
After the incident, the gunman escaped to an unknown direction.
“Sa ngayon ang tinitignan nating isa sa posibleng motibo, parang third party sa part ng lalaki baka napagdiskitahan siya dahil doon,” Baula said.
Kumarasamy’s wife, Irene, 24, who is four months old pregnant with their first child, survived the assault but has yet to issue a statement after suffering from trauma.
“Inaantay pa natin ‘yung salaysay niya kasi medyo trauma pa eh, nasa ospital pa. Nag-request na rin tayo ng kopya ng CCTV (closed-circuit television) footage para makilala ‘yung suspek,” Baula said.
Kurasamy’s cadaver was brought to Veronica Funeral Homes for autopsy.
Police have already conducted a follow up operation to shed light on the incident.
