National University (NU) had to dig deeper into its bag of tricks as it bested a persistent Adamson University, 25-21, 25-20, 25-19, yesterday at the start of the second round eliminations in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Bulldogs recovered from their inconsistencies in the first two sets and crawled back from a 12-5 and a 16-11 deficit in the third to pick up their fifth win against three losses.
It was NU’s second straight win bridging the second round, while duplicating its 25-15, 25-22, 25-19 first-round win to Adamson last Feb. 12.
As expected, 6-foot-4 Jaja Santiago stood above the rest by finishing with 15 points built on 13 kills and two blocks, even as Jorelle Singh chipped in 10 points, all coming from attacks.
NU Coach Roger Gorayeb, however, was far from pleased despite the victory, saying that his players lacked intensity in the game.
