University of Santo Tomas (UST) stamped its class in Day 1 of the 2017 National Cheerleading Championships after ruling the drumline and dance divisions at the Mall of Asia Arena last Friday.
The UST Yellow Jackets, who are usually seen cheering the school’s basketball teams in the UAAP, took the spotlight this time by reigning supreme in the inaugural Drumline Open Division.
Wearing tigerstriped jackets and sunglasses, the UST band impressed the audience with its solo and group drumbeats to the tune of Bruno Mars’ hits.
They edged National University Percussion Department and the Ateneo High School Band.
Not to be outdone, its other team, the UST Prime, also captured the Co-ed Mixed Hiphop Division against fiercest competitors CGSU Prime Movers and University of Asia and the Pacific.
Also taking the podium were the La Salle Greenhills Air Force dance group, which topped the Mixed Senior Hiphop division, to edge Xavier University Dance X and Marist High.
Competition is heating up at presstime in the all-girls cheerleading tournament. Co-ed teams will strut their stuff today.
