CAMP GENERAL SIMEON OLA, Legazpi City – A columnist of a national tabloid and a former hard-hitting commentator of DYNA Masbate was shot to death by two unidentified gunmen at around 8:45 a.m. of Monday.
Senior Inspector Malu Calubaquib, spokesperson of Police Regional Office (PRO-5) identified the victim as Joaquin Briones, Jr. Y Ancajas alyas “Dos por Dos” a resident of Brgy Bacolod, Milagros town, Masbate province.
Initial investigation revealed that while victim was onboard to his motorcycle was shot 4 times at his back by 2 unidentified assassins who were also onboard in a color red Honda XRM motorcycle.
About 125 journalists have been killed since 2001, based on an inventory of cases of violence against media workers submitted to President Duterte late last year by the Presidential Task Force on Media Security. (Niño N. Luces)
