Powerhouse National University lived up to its billing in local cheerleading after ruling the Coed College Cheer division of the 2017 National Cheerleading Championships Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The NU Pep Squad, which boasts of four straight UAAP Cheerdance titles including the latest season, wowed the audience with their crisp tosses and tumblings, as well as complicated pyramids to post 339.5 points.
Far Eastern University came in second with 304.5 points, while Taguig City University Pep Squad finished third with 261.5 points.
TCU Team A also took the podium in the Coed Group Stunts, besting teammates TCU Team B and NU.
Immaculate Concepcion Academy bannered yesterday’s winners after retaining the Coed Senior Cheer title in the 2017 National Cheerleading Championships at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Wearing black uniforms with red and white trims, the ISA All Stars dazzled the crowd with their flawless tosses to score 319 for the win.
“Double yung pressure kasi we’re defending our title. Ang daming nagbago sa amin, including the coaching staff, so ang hirap mag-adjust. But we’re happy that we were able to defend our crown,” said ICA All Stars Coach RJ de Ocampo, who is handling the team for the first time after being only part of the coaching staff last year.
Xavierville National High School Pep Squad settled for second place with 280 points, while Parañaque National High School Warriors came in third.
