With defending champion La Salle breathing around its neck, powerhouse Ateneo tries to pull away from the rest of the field when it tangles with a dangerous University of Santo Tomas today in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
Match is at 4 p.m. at The Arena in San Juan City with the Lady Eagles seeking to extend their winning streak to seven games while hiking up their 7-1 win-loss tally.
The Katipunan spikers are determined to double their efforts as the La Salle Lady Spikers are only half a game behind them with a 7-2 card.
Explosive attacks from Kat Tolentino, Maddie Madayag and Michelle Morente are also expected for Ateneo after their consistent showing over the last few games.
But credit is also credited to the versatility of setter Jia Morado, who seems to be producing a range of smart plays that has their rivals scrambling in their floor defense.
UST, however, is not intimidated.
At third place with a 5-3 mark, the Tigresses hope to display the same intensity they showed in their 25-21, 25-15, 25-23 victory over the University of the East Lady Warriors last week.
In that match, Pam Lastimosa is slowly finding her old form by firing 10 points.
