House leaders belittled yesterday the impeachment complaint filed by Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary C. Alejano against President Duterte, saying that the Chief Executive has the full backing of the majority of the members of the House of Representatives.
House Deputy Speakers Gwendolyn Garcia of Cebu and Fredenil Castro of Capiz expressed confidence that the ouster complaint will not prosper.
“It’s always a numbers game. And the reality is, there’s a super majority in the House that continues to support Speaker Alvarez and President Duterte,” Garcia said in a text message.
“It will not prosper especially if its grounds purportedly happened before President Duterte became President,” Castro said.
Castro said he sees some attempts to destabilize the government. “If viewed in the form of discrediting and sabotaging the success of his program especially in his war against drugs, yes, but by something extra constitutional or militarily, nothing at this point in time is apparent.” (Charissa M.
