Malacañang has warned about a “well-funded destabilization campaign” against President Duterte, implicating “senators and other higher officials” to the scheme.
Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella made the pronouncement a day after opposition lawmaker Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano filed an impeachment complaint against President Duterte for alleged corruption and abuse of power.
The complaint, filed by Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano, alleged that Duterte has committed high crimes, from involvement in extrajudicial killings to amassing unexplained wealth.
“Rep. Alejano’s impeachment filing is only the latest in an orchestrated effort of a well-funded destabilization campaign against President Rodrigo Duterte,” Abella said.
By filing the case on the last day of Congress session, Alejano has more than a month “to malign President Duterte without being challenged by fellow legislators,” according to Abella.
Abella went on to identify those behind the destabilization plot against the President.
“The instigators of this cynical campaign include senators and higher officials who attack the very institutions fighting the crime and contraband that tripled during their term,” he said. “These are apparently desperate acts to protect their threatened vested interests,” he added.
